Astroneer Review: Sandbox Adventure in the Space
The best description of this game would be: Astroneer is a survival simulation set in space. However, you won’t see here hardcore survival elements as the game accentuates more on the exploration aspect. Download Astroneer now if you enjoy space exploration and want to lose yourself on its colorful and delightful planets.
Astroneer Gameplay: 4.5/5
You start a game as a funny little astronaut that crashes on the surface of an unknown planet. You quickly install pipeline with oxygen in order to not die of suffocation. Keeping an eye on oxygen pipe, by the way, is going to be an important aspect of the game. After that, you’re free to start exploring and crafting. The game is not hardcore, and if you keep track of your oxygen pipes, then everything will be ok. There are however some nasty things like environmental hazards with poisonous clouds, but even if you die, you’ll simply respawn at the base.
Astroneer Graphics: 5/5
Astroneer has beautiful comic graphics. It’s already a joy just to sit and watch other people play it. With adorable characters, vivid nature and unique animations, you understand quick enough that this game is not about gathering resources but about laying back and enjoying this fantastic visual experience. Creating your own adventure, walking towards the horizon and discovering new planets to see what is there is a real joy in this game.
Astroneer Sounds: 4.5/5
Making an objective Astroneer review would be impossible without mentioning its music. The music perfectly matches for this genre of game as it doesn’t distract you from things happening on the screen. It’s wonderful and barely noticeable but saves you from the inconvenient silence of the cold space. Every action also has its own sound. Those are quite enjoyable and really add to the general atmosphere.
Controls are not complicated, and you’ll be instructed about them in the tutorial (which you better not skip). It will guide you through the basics, such as building, digging, scanning, controlling your inventory and exploring correctly the world around you. Walking and jumping don’t differ from other games so you’ll get used to controls soon enough.
Replay Value: 3.5/5
The game is fun to play, but it’s definitely not the hardest survival you’ll find. You get 7 different planets to explore, but one concern is that there’s not much to do on those planets other than exploring and gathering resources. Developers are constantly adding new features and elements to make gameplay more interacting, but for now, once you’ll pass this game, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll want to replay it.
Astroneer is a great game for those who enjoy exploring and digging up the ground to find resources. It most certainly will provide you hours or even days of fun experience. However, new stuff is still being added so we can’t say for sure if developers have managed to implement all of their ambitious ideas. For now, though it’s a great and relaxing experience that you won’t regret.
Astroneer really pushes boundaries of a classic sandbox far to space. Download Astroneer if you love space and want to play something very original and relaxing at the same time..
